Below you'll find a series of statements that we believe and defend at Summit Church. These core beliefs capture the basic contours of Christian theology and practice. Anyone seeking to join us in fellowship at Summit Church must share these beliefs.
We believe in one God in Trinity, and Trinity in unity. There is one person of the Father: another of the Son: and another of the Holy Spirit. In this Trinity no person is before or after another or is greater or less than another, but the Deity of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is all one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.
We believe that God has revealed Himself and His will for His church in Scripture. The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man’s salvation, faith, and life is either expressly set down in Scripture or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture.
We believe that God inspired and preserved His inerrant and infallible words in the Old and New Testaments.
We believe in the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things seen and unseen. We believe that the Father, in eternity past and according to His free grace and love, determined to send His only begotten Son to save us.
We believe in the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the same perfect in Deity and also perfect in humanity—fully and truly God and fully and truly man—yet without sin.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered and died for our salvation, rose again the third day from the dead, and ascended into heaven. He sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, ready to return and judge the living and the dead and thus consign each individual either to everlasting punishment or life eternal.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.
We believe that God, in the beginning, created the world, and all things therein, in the space of six days, and all was very good.
We believe that God created man, male and female, in His own image and in innocence; but capable of sin, that is, of transgression of God’s law. Adam sinned and thus condemned each of us, his natural descendants, to spiritual and physical death.
We believe that the Father sent His only begotten Son to save us through His life, death on the cross, and resurrection from the dead. We believe that those who respond to the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ’s work to save them in repentance and faith are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become new creatures, are delivered from condemnation, and receive eternal life now and the promise of resurrection in the life to come.
We believe that there is one body of Christ consisting of all true believers that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, under Christ the head of the body. Every true believer is a member of the one body of Christ.
The one body of Christ finds expression in local churches. A local church consists of those who regularly gather in the name and to the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus Christ gave the members of His body baptism and the Lord’s supper as signs of holy things that themselves set participants apart from the world. Baptism displays—through the application of water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit—the washing away of sins in the blood of Christ and the believer’s burial with Christ and resurrection to walk in newness of life. The Lord’s Supper displays—through eating bread and drinking wine—the body and blood of the Lord and proclaims His death until He comes.
